Frostproof is a small town in southern Polk County, set on the Lake Wales Ridge on a narrow strip of land between Lake Clinch and Lake Reedy. It began as a short-lived fort in 1850 and grew around citrus, and the groves and the agricultural families who built them still shape the community. The name was a promotional touch from the early citrus days, and the town has kept its small-town feel ever since.
Historic downtown runs along Wall Street between the two lakes. Landmarks include the Mediterranean Revival City Hall, which started life as the high school in 1926, and the Ramon Theater, built in 1925. The Frostproof Historical Society and Museum is worth a visit, and Lake Reedy and Lake Clinch offer fishing and boating. The Lake Wales Ridge State Forest and other natural areas lie to the east.
Frostproof sits along the Scenic Highway (State Road 17) and close to US 27. Lake Wales is a short drive north, Sebring is to the south and Winter Haven is to the west, with Orlando and Tampa both within about an hour and a half.
As of mid-October 2026, about 40 single-family homes are for sale in Frostproof. Many are priced from roughly $185,000 to $450,000, with lakefront and acreage properties priced higher. A typical home has about three bedrooms and 1,700 square feet. Prices change daily, so use the live listings below.
Frostproof is served by Polk County Public Schools. Assignments depend on the address, so confirm with the district's school locator.
